Check Dialup Settings - Windows XP

To check your Dialup settings in Windows XP:

From the Start menu, choose Control Panel. Click the Network and Internet Connections option, then choose Network Connections. Note: If the Control Panel is in Classic View, double click the Network Connections icon.

Right click your RV ISP Dialup Connection and choose Properties.

If necessary, choose your modem in the Connect using field.

While you can enable Dialing Properties, we recommend that you UNCHECK "Use dialing rules" and type the entire number INCLUDING properties into the "Telephone Number:" field (see below). Verify the local access number in the Telephone number field and be sure the number you are calling is local.

The number should be entered exactly as it needs to be dialed. For example, if you need to dial the area code enter the number as XXX-XXX-XXXX.

To disable call waiting, type in *70, XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have tone dialing or 1170, XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have pulse dialing. Note: Some phone companies use 70# to disable call waiting; if this applies to you, type in 70#, XXX-XXX-XXXX. If you are not sure what your call waiting code is, please contact your telephone company for this information.

If you need to dial 9 to get an outside line, enter the number as 9, XXX-XXXX.

Note: Dashes (-) and spaces are not required, but using dashes can allow you to more clearly distinguish the area code from the exchange and the final 4 digits.

Click the Options tab. The following options should be checked:

  • Display progress while connecting
  • Prompt for name and password, certificate, etc.
  • Prompt for phone number
Set the Redial options as you prefer.

Click the Security tab. The Security options should be set to Typical with Allow unsecured password chosen in the drop down box. No other options should be set on this screen.

Click the Networking tab. The type of dialup server should be set to PPP: Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet. In the This connection uses the following items, you have at least Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) checked.

Click OK to save your changes. Double click the RV ISP icon.

Check your username and reenter your password if necessary. Verify that the Dialup number is correct. Click Dial to connect.
